When all players are at their peak, there is no single dominant strategy, and all players are aware of the majority of viable in-game strategies, the metagame comes into action. At the highest level, it becomes necessary to research new counter strategies specifically against opponents' current strategies, to operate outside of the game's prescribed rules, to use external factors to affect the game, or to go beyond the game's supposed limits or environment to gain an advantage over the opponent. The Meta-Game is a new "game" that transcends the original game.
